Open Space Committee
Minutes from meeting 6/25/08

Members Present: Steve Gulrich , Frank Dobek, Sue Haley, Bob Cook, Glen Collins,
Staff Present: Rachel Hutchinson
Others present: Steve Smith to be appointed as representative from the Conservation Commission to replace Glenn Collins.

Other member news: Glen Collins was at his last meeting tonight to be replaced by Steve Smith. Glen is to be recognized for his service to the committee and for his willingness to step into the Chairmanship when it was vacated last year. Dave Reed although absent, has also completed his membership with the open space committee, after many years of dedicated service.

The meeting was brought to order at 6:15 PM.

Minutes were reviewed and amendments were made regarding a typo and the available source for specimen trees. A motion was made by Bob Cook to accept the minutes and was seconded by Glen Collins and all approved.

The committee took one last look at the edited plant labels for Wiley Park, made minor adjustments and approved them all for fabrication.

Details were discussed for a public awareness presentation on wildfire preparedness, primarily targeting  residents who live nearby these open space lands. The program is open to the public, however and will be beneficial for any Cape resident. The program is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23rd at 7 pm and will take place at the Salt Pond Visitor Center. Josh Nigro of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation Resources will be the primary speaker. David Crary, Fire Management Officer for Cape Cod National Seashore will also be invited to be on hand and discuss similar efforts the National Seashore has taken towards wildfire preparedness.

Efforts are ongoing by Town staff towards preparing a Self Help grant through the State for the purchase of the Baldwin property at Rock Harbor.  

Ms. Haley made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:10 pm. Mr. Cook seconded and all approved.
